MISSION & HISTORY
Everett Stewart Regional Airport serves as a critical aviation hub for Northwest Tennessee. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable, and convenient aviation services while promoting economic development, transportation, education, and tourism throughout the region.
Our History
1942
Construction begins on Union City Army Airfield as a World War II pilot training base.
1942–1943
The Riddle-McKay Company, now Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, operates the Army Air Forces flight-training program.
1942–1944
Approximately 19 classes of Army Air Forces cadets complete primary flight training at the airfield.
After WWII
The airport is transferred to Obion County and becomes Tom Stewart Airport.
After WWII
It is later renamed Everett Stewart Airport to honor Congressman Robert A. “Fats” Everett.
1987
The current terminal building is completed, replacing the original WWII control tower.
2006–2007
Obion and Weakley Counties establish a joint airport commission, creating Everett-Stewart Regional Airport.
2011
A Tennessee Wing Civil Air Patrol Squadron is established at the airport.
2012
Airport Manager Jo Ann Speer is named Tennessee Airport Manager of the Year.
2013–2014
The airport receives additional statewide recognition for aviation leadership and service.
2017–Present
The airport hosts nationally recognized aerobatic teams and continues expanding its role in general aviation.
